BURIEN, Wash. — A 19-year-old suspect is in the King County Jail after deputies say he robbed a KeyBank in White Center and then threw a bag of money over the railing of a Burien apartment building.
Khalid Mohamed appeared to smile as he was led by deputies to a waiting officer's car. The SWAT team had surrounded the Gateway Lanai apartment complex and was approaching the unit in which he was hiding when he surrendered Thursday afternoon.
Neighbor Neang Nep lives next door. He believes the suspect was someone visiting his neighbor.
"I think he had a few people come over, and they've been extremely loud," he said. "To go out and rob a KeyBank or something like that, that's crazy to me."
Deputies are also investigating whether Mohamed is a suspect in other robberies in the area.
Mitthu Singh thinks he may be the man who robbed him Monday night at the 76 gas station he runs. He said the suspect claimed he had a gun in a bag placed on the counter.
"I couldn't sleep the last three nights because it scared me," he said.
Singh said the suspect was wearing sunglasses and covered his head with a hat. He said he had to go to the hospital after he passed out at work, remembering the suspect's threats.
"He told me 'Hey, you call the cops, I know where you live,'" Singh said. "'I know where you are, this and that, I'm going to kill you and kill your family.'"
