EVERETT, Wash. — Construction for the new commercial passenger terminal at Everett's Paine Field is now expected to be completed in about six weeks.
But the facility could still be months away from opening.
Propeller Airports CEO Brett Smith is the man behind this $40 million project.
He told KIRO 7 he, along with many others, is anxious for this terminal to open but has to abide by regulations of the Federal Aviation Administration, which is still conducting its environmental review.
“We are doing everything we can, but we got to do it the right way,” said Smith. “And we are working with different constituencies that are necessary.”
This terminal is meant to be a closer alternative to SeaTac Airport for North Sound residents.
FAA regulators are looking at everything from what kinds of planes will be operating here to the number of parking spaces for travelers.
Smith said his team recently added another parking lot, to accommodate 250 more vehicles.
“Everybody felt we needed more parking and we agree it’s better to be safe than sorry,” said Smith.
We have also learned the FAA will hold an information workshop next month at which the public can comment on this project.
This terminal is expected to create around 200 jobs.
The hiring process has already begun.
When it opens, the facility will serve up to 1,700 passengers a day aboard 24 flights.
Smith said he hopes to begin that service by early 2019.
