Truck slams into I-90 overpass in Issaquah

A truck with its load ramp in the upright position struck the I-90 overpass above Front Street in Issaquah.

ISSAQUAH, Wash. — A truck on Issaquah’s busy Front Street hit an eastbound Interstate 90 overpass Friday morning.

All lanes of eastbound I-90 in Issaquah were scheduled to reopen to traffic by 10 p.m. Friday, state transportation staff said.

The truck belongs to Recology CleanScapes. The driver was taken to the hospital in stable condition after the crash about 9:30 a.m.

The far right lane of eastbound I-90 was closed and the right lane of northbound Front Street was closed Friday morning.

The official cause of the crash has not been determined, but Department of Transportation workers said their theory was that the driver left a business in Issaquah with the truck’s load ramp in the upright position or it started to rise up for some reason.

The driver, not realizing it was up, tried to drive under the freeway overpass freeway on northbound Front Street and struck the bridge, they said.
