PERM, Russia — At least six people are dead and more than two dozen others are hurt after gunfire erupted at Russia’s Perm State University on Monday, authorities said.

Update 12:15 p.m. EDT Sept. 20: Officials in Russia said six people died Monday after a student opened fire at Perm State University, The Associated Press and The Washington Post reported.
Earlier, officials with Russia’s Investigative Committee said eight people had died in the shooting, according to the AP. The reason for the change was not immediately clear.
Officials told the AP that 28 other people were injured in the incident, 19 of which were shot.
Update 8:14 a.m. EDT Sept. 20: Russia’s Investigative Committee now says 28 people were wounded in the incident, according to The Associated Press.
Update 5:50 a.m. EDT Sept. 20: The number of people wounded in the shooting has risen to 24, The Associated Press reported early Monday. At least 19 of those victims suffered bullet wounds, authorities said. Officials did not say how the remaining five victims were hurt.
Original report: At least eight people are dead after gunfire erupted at a Russian university, authorities said.
According to The Associated Press, the incident occurred Monday morning at Perm State University in Perm. A gunman armed with a “traumatic” firearm, which is supposed to fire non-lethal ammunition but can be modified, opened fire on campus, killing at least eight people, Russia’s Investigative Committee said. As many as 14 other people were wounded, authorities said.
Russia’s Interior Ministry said law enforcement officials have detained the shooter, the AP reported. Authorities have not released the suspect’s name or a possible motive for the shooting, according to the news agency.
About 12,000 students attend the university, the AP reported.
