WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — A suspect accused of dragging a child into the woods and choking them was held by a witness at gunpoint until officers arrived.
The Warner Robins Police Department said in a news release that its officers were called to a Walmart for a report of a kidnapping in progress on Sunday afternoon.
Officers said in the news release that Haimnarine Doobay, 67, had arrived at the store with the victim in his car, and forced the child out of the vehicle. At that point, Doobay allegedly took the victim into the woods, “threw the juvenile to the ground and began choking them.”
A person saw what was happening and pulled a gun on Doobay, WSB-TV reported. The witness held Doobay at gunpoint until officers arrived.
Police said they arrested Doobay on charges of aggravated assault and cruelty toward a child. The victim was turned over to the Houston County Sheriff’s Office for follow-up and care.
Officers did not say whether Doobay and the victim were related or where the two were before arriving at Walmart, WSB-TV reported.
