SEATTLE — The man accused of gunning down 43-year-old Yancy Noll at a Roosevelt intersection last month made his first court appearance Saturday afternoon for a bail hearing.
Dinh Bowman, 29, was arrested at his home Friday after police acted on tips that they received.
Noll was driving in Roosevelt on Aug. 31 when he stopped at Northeast 75th and 15th Avenue North.
According to police, Dinh pulled alongside Noll’s car and opened fire. Noll was shot three times and Dinh fled the scene. Police believe the motive was road rage.
Investigators towed Bowman’s silver BMW Z-4, which was the car that was seen driving away from where Noll was shot.
Police said Dinh kept his car hidden in his garage 10 blocks from the shooting scene, and that Bowman painted the wheels, replaced the tires and had the passenger side window replaced in Portland.
“He [Dinh] poses a threat, not just because of violence, but because of the sophistication and planning that was gone into his efforts to conceal his involvement,” said King County prosecutor Scott Otoole.
KIRO 7 Eyewitness News received a video of Bowman competing in a shooting contest last November. In the video, he fired the gun with precision in both hands and hitting his targets.
The competition was held at the Paul Bunyan Sportsmans Club near Graham, and members at the club told KIRO 7’s Alison Grande that no one knew Bowman, but his ability.
“They put these on every few months,” said member Matt Roth. “Obviously, it’s not a good thing. You use the skill at the range, for competition, it takes a lot of skill and effort to do what he did. He took it too far.”
Bowman hired John Henry Browne as his attorney. Browne has represented the Barefoot Bandit, Colton Harris Moore.
The judge ruled to hold Bowman at the King County Jail without bail, and prosecutors told KIRO 7 that they will file murder charges in the next few days.
