MARYSVILLE, Wash. — Home security video shows a dishwasher being blown to pieces outside a Marysville home Sunday night near 67th Avenue NE and 47th Place. The force of the explosion lodged a piece of the machine into a nearby home and sent debris flying down the street and even into a tree.
No one was reportedly hurt in the explosion, which Marysville police said was caused by a firework.
Marisol Casillas and her boyfriend, Claude Puro, said they had placed the old dishwasher outside of their home with a "free" sign on it earlier Sunday.
"Mad," said Casillas, who was home with her boyfriend near a glass window that cracked from the explosion. "It makes me feel disgusted."
The couple reported the explosion, that happened around 9:20 p.m. Sunday, to Marysville police, who told KIRO 7 a firework was placed inside the dishwasher. The surveillance camera captured a flick of light and audio of voices moments before the explosion.
One person asked, "Should I close it?" A second person responded, "Yeah." Both quickly left in a car, concealed by darkness.
"I was just grateful that I wasn't in the line of that," said Casillas. "Could've been us or could've been out dog that we sometimes keep out here."
A police spokesperson said kids were likely to blame for the explosion that's potentially a misdemeanor crime and did not know what type of firework was placed inside the dishwasher.
