Car rams into Lakewood beauty shop; owner pleading for help

LAKEWOOD, Wash. — The owner of a Lakewood beauty salon is hoping someone will step up and help catch the driver who crashed into her shop and then took off.

The hit-and-run happened around 5 p.m. Sunday.

The crash was caught on a neighboring business’ surveillance camera. It shows a car heading south on Bridgeport Way suddenly losing control, going in the opposite direction and slamming into Jewel’s Salon and Beauty. Seconds later, the car is driven away.

“I understand if you lose control. I understand that, but why can’t you leave your number and call police?” shop owner Jewel Curtis said.

Curtis contacted KIRO 7 in hopes someone will recognize the car and help catch the responsible driver.

A day later, though she boarded up the wall and cleaned up, there is still quite a bit of damage at her shop. But as if this wasn’t enough, she was hurt by what she encountered after she found out about the crash.

“I rushed down and came here and saw people taking my wigs. I was so devastated,” Curtis added.

It happened in broad daylight. Fortunately, the shop is closed Sundays.

“I was thinking sometimes my grandchildren come here. I said to myself, 'I’m so happy my grandchildren wasn’t here and nobody got hurt,'” Curtis said.

The crash was so loud, workers from neighboring businesses came out to see what happened. In the video, someone can be seen walking up to the shop five minutes after the crash. He's there for a few seconds and then he walks away. KIRO 7 spoke to the workers off camera who say he picked up some debris that fell off the car.

“I mean, you can come back to retrieve something. I'm saying you got some kind of nerve. I don’t know what kind of people does (sic) stuff like this. It really hurts,” Curtis said. “I really hope people can help find this guy. I want justice. That’s why I called you. I just wanted justice.”
