Technical problems delay launch of new red light cameras in Kent

The city of Kent has delayed the launch of its red light camera program because of technical problems, police said on Wednesday.

The city reviewed collision data over the last five years to select the intersections and divided its response into two stages.

Three cameras were stalled at these intersections and are part of stage one:

  • Central Avenue North and East Smith Street
  • Central Avenue North and East James Street
  • Kent Des Moines Road and Pacific Highway South

Police said once they're ready, there is a 30-day warning period before ticketing begins.

"We will let you know when they become active and when the 30 days starts," police said.

Drivers will receive a $136 ticket and the violation counts as a civil penalty.
