State Senate honors bus driver injured in Lake City shootings

OLYMPIA, Wash. — The Washington state Senate approved a resolution Tuesday to honor King County Metro bus driver Eric Stark.

Stark was operating a Metro bus in Seattle's Lake City Neighborhood on March 27 when he was shot by a gunman.

Police said Tad Norman killed two people and injured two others, Stark included, in a crime ramage that had multiple scenes.

Before seeking medical help for himself, Stark drove the bus out of the area to ensure the safety of the passengers onboard. Click here to read more about Stark's heroic efforts.

"I was just doing my job and it's a little overwhelming, all this, but it's great to be here and to have my wife and my kids come down,” said Stark.

Senate Resolution 8644, sponsored by Sen. Jesse Saloman, D-Shoreline, recognizes and thanks Stark "for the selflessness, courage and commitment to public safety" he displayed, Senate Democrats said in a news release.

"To say, not only have I been shot, but I have a whole bus full of passengers that I need to move out of the way into safety and to be able to do that successfully before even thinking about yourself is the kind of behavior we want to see represented in our citizenry,” said Sen. Jesse Salomon, (D) Shoreline.

Senate Resolution 8644 also thanked officers with the Seattle Police Department and offered condolences to the families of the victims.

"I did what I could do in the moment and I'm glad it worked out obviously and that my passengers were safe and that I came out of it as well,” said Stark.
