Seattle City Hall turns into ‘Kitty Hall’ for Seattle Animal Shelter adoption event

SEATTLE — Some furry friends descended upon Seattle City Hall on Tuesday, as it turned into “Kitty Hall” in celebration of the Seattle Animal Shelter’s 50th anniversary.

“Kitty Hall,” which was last held in 2019, is just one of many of the shelter’s community events that have been canceled or delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Even during the challenges of the pandemic, the Seattle Animal Shelter and its team of dedicated staff and volunteers helped 2,000 animals find their forever homes each year,” said Mayor Bruce Harrell. “The return of “Kitty Hall” celebrates this milestone and how pets bring our community together.

At the event, people got to sit with kittens and cats of all ages to see if they’d be a good fit for their homes, just in time for the holidays.

A total of 19 cats and 16 kittens were at the event.

Three cats were also in the running for the ultra-important position of Kitty Council president.

Sid, whose campaign noted that he “will reach across the aisle with cats and dogs,” was ultimately declared the winner.

The shelter said it hopes to organize more events to make it easier for people to adopt cats and other pets in the future.
