SEATTLE — Protesters gathered Thursday evening in downtown Seattle outside Washington state's Immigration and Customs Enforcement headquarters to protest what they call the Trump administration's inhumane immigration policies.
The demonstrators are demanding the administration reunite families who were separated and detained at the southern border while seeking asylum in the U.S.
Protesters also want the state to ban the use of private immigration facilities, such as the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma.
They want the state to follow Illinois' lead, as it was the first state to ban the facilities.
"Close the camps! Close the camps! Close the camps!" protestors shouted during the demonstration.
"We can no longer watch as our friends and neighbors are torn from their homes by the Trump administration," said Nikita Minkin, one of the rally's organizers and a student at the University of Washington.
