RICHLAND, Wash. — A man who police say opened fire inside a Richland Fred Meyer store on Monday has been charged.
One person was killed in the shooting and another, a store employee, was critically injured.
Aaron Kelly was charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder. He made his first appearance in Benton County Superior Court Tuesday afternoon.
He was arrested Monday night on Interstate 90 near Spokane.
Kelly did not enter a plea and was jailed on $1 million bail. The 39-year-old is due back in court to be arraigned on February 23.
Court documents filed Monday say Kelly is a frequent shoplifter whose mental health was deteriorating.
A former roommate said Kelly was spiraling, increasingly paranoid and often carried a gun.
