BOTHELL, Wash. — Detectives with the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team are searching for possible witnesses of the shooting that resulted in the death of Bothell police officer Jonathan Shoop.
Investigators say Shoop was shot by another officer during friendly fire after trying to pull over a car in Bothell on July 13. However, the Bothell City manager previously said “let us be clear, we believe the actions of the suspect led to this tragic event.”

The suspect, identified as Henry Eugene Washington, has been charged with aggravated first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder and vehicular assault.

The detectives released a photo on Tuesday of a 1995-2002 white Toyota 4Runner (see above) that they said was directly behind the marked patrol SUV when the shooting happened.
Detectives said the occupants “may have witnessed the shooting event” and are asking them to contact the SMART Tip Line at 425-262-2800 or by email at SMARTtipline@snoco.org.
The SMART team is made up of investigators, evidence technicians, records specialist, and public information officers from various Snohomish County law enforcement agencies and the Washington State Patrol, who respond to and investigate, police use of force incidents.
When their investigation is complete, it will be forwarded to the King County Prosecutor’s Office for further review.
