Suspect in attempted King County kidnapping taken into custody

SEATTLE — UPDATE: The suspect wanted after an attempted kidnapping and sexual assault of a 16-year-old that occurred in unincorporated King County has been identified and taken into custody.

Police said the suspect, Kevin J. Perkins, was in custody on Thursday at about 3 p.m. Perkins will be taken to King County Jail shortly, police said.

He was charged late last month, before his arrest, after investigators said DNA recovered from the attempted kidnapping linked Perkins to the crime.

EARLIER STORY: The King County's Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help to identify a man wanted in an attempted kidnapping and sexual assault of a 16-year-old that occurred in unincorporated King County.
Deputies said the attack happened Aug. 13th at the corner of South 272nd Street and 42nd Avenue South.
Authorities say the teen was jogging when she encountered the suspect. She tried to flee, but the man grabbed her.
A couple who lives nearby woke up to screams and knew something was really wrong.
“I just heard somebody crying for help, and wanted to help if it was my child or anybody’s,” said Rochelle Williams.
“It's really sad because it sounded like a child,” said George Williams.
Rochelle rushed out in her car and found a crime scene, “There was a shoe in the middle of the street. I knew something was wrong. We saw there was a sweatshirt a headphone.”
Deputies say the man grabbed the teen and shoved her into his car.
“It's just sounding like a real random attack, we don't have anything like this, nothing in the area specifically at all,” said Ryan Abbott with the King County Sheriff’s Office.
Abbott says the incident and how it happened doesn’t match up with any other crimes they’ve seen lately, making it even more important that they track down the suspect who is still at large.
The victim was able to get away from the suspect and flag down a passing motorist for help.
Detectives have searched for the suspect and his vehicle for a week but have not found anything so far.
The suspect's car was an older, dark four-door SUV, similar to a Toyota Forerunner. The suspect is white, 6'2-foot-2, thin, probably in his 50s with salt and pepper, shoulder length-length hair.
Anyone with information is urged to call the King County Sheriff’s Office at 206-296-3311.
