Two-car injury collision closes Warren Avenue in Bremerton for hours

A two-car crash involving a possible DUI driver has closed a street in Bremerton.

A two-car injury crash closed a busy street in Bremerton that lasted through the Monday morning commute, according to police.

At 12:31 a.m., Bremerton police and fire were called to the crash on Warren Avenue near 16th Street just south of the Warren Avenue Bridge.

Investigators believe a Chrysler driven by a 31-year-old Bremerton resident was heading southbound across the bridge when the driver lost control and hit the rear end of a Pontiac that was also heading southbound.  Excessive speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the collision, police said.

The driver of the Pontiac was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tacoma and the passenger was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.  The extent of their injuries is not known.

The driver of the Chrysler was transported to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton for treatment for minor injuries and his passenger was transported to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton for possible broken bones.

Warren Avenue was closed from the north end of the Warren Avenue Bridge to 11th Street. It reopened at about 7:30 a.m.
