A man was killed in a two-car crash at Purdy Spit, the Washington State Patrol said.
The crash occurred on state Route 302 at about 7:05 a.m. on Monday, closing the highway in both directions during the investigation.
The WSP said a 52-year-old man from Lakebay was killed when his car crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a car north of Gig Harbor.
A Toyota driven by a 54-year-old Port Orchard woman went over an embankment but landed short of the water. She was extricated from the car by firefighters and then taken to a hospital.
The highway reopened at about 9:30 a.m.
