Wenatchee bed and breakfast helps couple marry despite wildfires

WENATCHEE, Wash. — A Wenatchee bed and breakfast helped a couple marry Saturday, when wildfires burning in the area interrupted their plans.

The bride and groom expressed deep gratitude for Julie Szmania, who runs Warm Springs Inn Bed and Breakfast with her husband.

The inn helped the two host their wedding ceremony on Saturday in the yard.

"We're finally getting a chance to breathe for the first time in about two days," said the groom, Lars Jorgensen. "From the smoke as well the stress. We really owe Julie everything."

Julie said it was not the first emergency wedding she’s hosted at Warm Springs.

Something similar happened last year, with an even larger wedding -- of 250 people.

Julie and her husband had already taken in around 20 evacuees from the Chelan County fires, when they received the call about the wedding.

The caterer also backed out of the wedding. Julie said her husband, who is a chef, planned to work with a local restaurant to prepare the food.

Saturday night, the newlyweds sent some of their marriage photographs to KIRO 7.
