BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, Wash. — Neighbors laid flowers outside the home of 71-year-old Cynthia Little Friday.
On Thursday, she and her little dog Jack were found dead inside the house. Police said she was like a grandmother to 18-year-old Benjamin Bonner, the man now arrested for her murder.
Police said Bonner stole his mother’s silver SUV and drove it to Little’s Sequim home. According to court documents, Bonner was “diagnosed with ADHA, and more recently was believed to suffer from paranoid schizophrenia.”
Bonner’s parents said his meds were being adjusted and he “recently claimed that his best friend was an android.” Thursday when Bonner got to Little’s house, the 71-year-old called his parents and tried to hug him.
The troubled teen later told police he saw the hug as an attack and “…retrieved a fire poker near the fireplace and struck Cynthia in self-defense.” He confessed she screamed, “I love you” repeatedly during the attack.
He also told police he killed Little’s dog.
Bonner’s parents went to Little’s home and were the ones to find her body. They called police and turned in their son, who had taken Little’s car and returned to his home.
Bonner is being held on $1.5 Million. His next court appearance is schedule for Tuesday.
