Starting Thursday evening at 10 p.m., all transit will be rerouted for about two weeks during a full closure of the Alaskan Way Viaduct while tunneling is done beneath it.
King County Metro released the following about its routes:
During this time, all the traffic that normally uses the Viaduct will be rerouted into adjacent corridors. While every effort will be made to operate as normally and as close to on time as possible, Transit riders are advised to expect possible significant delays and to plan or revise their commutes accordingly.
Taking some time off, working from home, ridesharing, changing travel times or riding the West Seattle Water Taxi may be options for many commuters. Some riders may want to subscribe to Transit Alerts for additional routes.
During the Viaduct closure Metro bus routes 21E, 37, 55, 56, 57, 113, 120, 121, 122, 123, 125 and the RapidRide C Line will be rerouted off of the viaduct at all times. See a map showing the reroutes.
Routes 21E, 55, 56, 57, 120, 125 and the RapidRide C Line will travel into downtown Seattle via 4th Av S in the SODO area, stopping only at S Lander St for connections to or from Link light rail or other south-end buses, before continuing non-stop to 3rd Av and Seneca St. Leaving downtown, these routes will serve stops southbound on 3rd Av just south of both Seneca and Columbia streets, then operate non-stop to the bus stop westbound on S Lander St just west of the SODO Busway for Link and south end connections, before continuing on to the West Seattle Bridge and their regular routes.
Route 37 will follow the same routing in both directions as the above routes and will miss none of its regular stops. It will also serve the stops at S Lander St in both directions.
Routes 113, 121, 122 and 123 will travel into town via East Marginal Way S, S Spokane St and the SODO Busway, serving the stop on the Busway just north of S Lander St. Leaving downtown, they will serve their usual last stop on 2nd Av at Marion St, then travel non-stop to the bus stop southbound on 4th Av S just south of S Lander St, before continuing non-stop back to East Marginal Way S and their regular routing and stops.
During the Viaduct closure, use the regularly published online or paper timetables for the scheduled times of all of these routes, but expect likely significant transit service delays, as general traffic will also be using the same alternate surface streets.
