Two men found dead after mobile home fire in rural Snohomish County

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. — Firefighters and detectives are investigating after two men were found dead after a mobile home fire in rural Snohomish County.

The fire at the home in the 14200 block of Club Way, southeast of Arlington, was reported after neighbors called 911 about 9 p.m. Monday.

Callers told dispatchers they believed two people were inside the burning home.

Neighbors tried to find a way to get in and rescue the occupants, two brothers in their 50s, but the home was engulfed in flames and was too dangerous to enter.

Clifford Bain and his son ran out to help when they saw the double-wide trailer burning, but were unable to get through the locked front and back doors.

"(I) didn't know what else to do so I just kicked the door open and went in there.  Got in there about five feet.  The house was so dark, you couldn't see nothing.  I hollered the same thing, you know, 'Hey!  Hello! Anybody in here? Hello,'  Nothing," said Bain.

They were forced out by the thick smoke and spreading flames. By the time firefighters arrived, the trailer home's roof had collapsed.

When the fire was out, firefighters found two bodies inside.

Though the victims haven't been identified yet,  family members told KIRO 7 that Brian and Charlie Wiley lived in the burned-out home.

A relative said one man had suffered a brain injury in an accident years ago that left him with the mental capacity of a 12-year-old.

"He'd wave.  But he'd always have a beer or bottle in his hand and just having a good old time. Drive up and down the road on his tractor," said Bain.

Family members say his older brother suffered from depression.

"They were heavy drinkers, and in my mind, I'm thinking that's what happened, you know, he passed out with a cigarette or something," said Bain.

Snohomish County detectives are conducting a death investigation and fire officials will determine the cause of the blaze.
