ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Apparently, it’s not just humans that like a good Costco run.
At a Costco in Anchorage, Alaska, ravens are swooping down and swiping food from shoppers.
This isn’t like shoppers swiping food from the sample trays. The birds are zeroing in on full carts in the parking lot.
Matt Lewallen told Anchorage Daily News that two ravens took a short rib from his cart after he said he walked only a few feet away from it.
The bird got its beak on a four-by-seven inch chunk of meat.
Lewellen said he thinks they’re old pros when it comes to getting a quick snack.
“They’re very fat, so I think they’ve got a whole system there,” he told the newspaper.
When he got home, Lewallen said he noticed that the birds pecked at the rest of the ribs. So he cut off the pecked part and started marinating the ribs, until his wife stepped in. She said they needed to return the ribs, which the store took back, giving the Lewallens a full refund, the Daily News reported.
The Lewallens weren’t alone. There have been others who reported the robbing ravens targeting their food.
One woman said her parents were victims of the bird’s steak stealing.
