“Thank you everyone for rooting for me,” Ke Huy Quan said after accepting his award for best actor in a supporting role. He became the first Asian male film winner.
“This moment no longer belongs to just me, it also belongs to everyone who has asked for change,” Quan said. “When I stepped away from acting it was because there were so few opportunities. The landscape looks so different now than before. So thank you so much to everyone in this room who contributed to these changes.”
Curtis, 64, gave an emotional tribute to her parents, actors Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh and professed her love for acting.
“I’m 64 and this is just amazing,” Curtis said. “I love acting. It’s such a beautiful job.”
“The White Lotus” took two awards, with Jennifer Coolidge winning best actress in a drama series and the film winning best ensemble in a drama series.
Oscar-winning actress Sally Field, 76, received a lifetime achievement award from SAG. Field, who played Gidget and the Flying Nun on television during the 1960s, went on to win two Academy Awards, for “Norma Rae” in 1979 and 1984′s “Places in the Heart.”
“I was a little white girl, with a pug nose, born in Pasadena, California,” Field said. “And when I look around this room tonight, I know my plight, as hard as it was, was lightweight compared to some of yours.
“I thank you, and I applaud you.”
