McRib lovers rejoice – the McDonald’s sandwich will be back on menus for a limited time beginning Nov. 1, company officials announced Thursday.
The sandwich, comprising a pork patty covered in barbeque sauce and topped with onions and dill pickles on a homestyle bun, initially had few fans, according to CNN. However, it has since gained a cult following, bolstered by the advent of the internet and social media which “solidified the McRib’s icon status,” according to McDonald’s.
The fast-food restaurant chain also announced the McRib’s return on social media Thursday.

me: i think it’s time to bring the McRib back 11.1
The McRib first launched regionally in Kansas City, Kansas, in 1981 before making its national debut one year later. Since then, the sandwich has appeared on McDonald’s menus across the globe, including in Germany, New Zealand and France.
Mike Bullington, senior archives manager at McDonald’s, said in a statement that the McRib was initially cooked up as a sandwich “that could be enjoyed during the colder seasons.”
“Whether you’re a McRib loyalist or first timer, there is no denying that the McRib is one of the most iconic sandwiches of the last four decades and we have thousands of emails and tweets from fans to prove it,” he said.
The sandwich will be available at participating McDonald’s locations.
