KFC started testing Beyond’s plant-based chicken in Atlanta in August 2019, and expanded the offering to Nashville, southern California and Charlotte, North Carolina the following year, Reuters reported.
“This is really about where the customer is going. They want to eat more plant-based proteins,” Kevin Hochman, U.S. president of KFC, told CNBC.
“It’s January, so it’s a time of New Year’s resolutions and wanting to do something different in your diet,” he added.
According to regulatory filings, KFC, Yum Brands’ largest chain, had nearly 4,000 restaurants in the United States at the end of 2020, Reuters reported.
