ROTTERDAM, Netherlands — Amazon founder Jeff Bezos will have to find a different way to get his new superyacht out of a shipyard in the Netherlands once the vessel is finished.
Oceanco, the company building the sailing superyacht, told the Rotterdam City Council that it would no longer request to have the Koningshaven Bridge in Rotterdam temporarily dismantled so the more than 400-foot long ship could pass under it, according to The Wall Street Journal.
In February, the company implied that it had asked the city to dismantle the bridge to allow for the yacht’s three giant masts over 130 feet tall.
The Koningshaven Bridge was opened for trains to cross the Maas River in 1927 and taken out of service in 1993 when a tunnel replaced it. Public protests spared it from demolition, and it eventually underwent a three-year renovation that ended in 2017 according to The Associated Press.
It’s unclear if the $500 million yacht reportedly being built for Bezos will have to find a new way to the ocean or if the company is scrapping its plans.
Oceanco declined to comment on what’s next for the yacht, according to Bloomberg.
The yacht, which has been connected to the Amazon founder since 2021, is known as Y721 and will be the sailing yacht in the world. Bloomberg reported that it includes a “support yacht” that will provide a helicopter landing pad since the masts will not allow for the landing of an aircraft onboard.
