LITHIA, Fla. — A man has died after he hit a large alligator with his car while driving in Hillsborough County, Florida.
In a news release, Hillsborough County sheriff’s deputies said Johns Hopkins was driving in Lithia when the front of his vehicle hit the alligator, which was on the road. The crash caused his car to flip over and land in a ditch.
Investigators told WFTV that Hopkins died on the scene, and the alligator was also killed in the crash.
Police were called when a passing driver noticed the car in the ditch and called 911.
