Adrian Ramirez, 18, was arrested and charged with bringing a weapon onto the grounds of Modesto High School, The Modesto Bee reported.

Security officers at the high school found the weapon while performing a scheduled search with contraband detective dogs, the newspaper reported.

Modesto Police Department officers were called around 10:30 a.m. PDT and arrived to arrest Ramirez, department spokesperson Sharon Bear told the Bee.

Modesto High School Principal Jason Manning sent a telephone message to parents and teachers about the incident, KOVR-TV reported.

“As a reminder, this underscores the importance of ‘if you see something, say something,’” Manning said. “I commend our school security team for the responsible actions in addressing this situation to ensure the safety of all students, teachers and staff on our campus.
