A King County Superior Court jury Thursday found a former Highline School District teacher not guilty on child rape charges.
Allegations against Darcy Smith, 41, surfaced in February 2015 for a case involving a 14-year-old.
This unanimous verdict allows Darcy, her friends, and family to begin the process of restoring the reputation she built over the last 15 years as an award-winning teacher.
“Darcy and her family want to thank all of those former students, colleagues, and friends who have expressed their unwavering support and belief in her innocence throughout a difficult time,” her attorney, Brad Meryhew, wrote in a statement on Thursday.
Current and former students at McMicken Heights Elementary came with signs proclaiming her innocence during her early appearances in court.
