Suspect steals garage door opener, gains access to Newcastle home

Suspect in Newcastle burglary and break-in attempt

NEWCASTLE, Wash. — The King County Sheriff’s Office is issuing a warning after responding to a recent home break-in.

On Oct. 28, deputies responded to a call in Newcastle after a homeowner reported the attempted break-in.

An unknown suspect entered the victim’s vehicle, took the garage door opener and then proceeded to enter the victim’s home through the garage.

The suspect inadvertently set off the home’s alarm system and fled the scene in a dark, older-model pickup.

In a Facebook post, the sheriff’s office recommended taking your garage door opener inside with you at night to prevent any potential burglars from gaining access to your home.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact the King County Sheriff’s Office.
