TACOMA, Wash. — After fierce storms Saturday, the city of Tacoma worked to clean up the flooding that had created lakes and rivers in the middle of city streets.
Road blocks kept drivers from going past areas where water and rocks spilled over Marine View Drive.
Employees at the North Shore Golf Course shared video of the flooding with KIRO 7.
"The whole 9-hole was under water, the green was completely under water at one point. It was a biblical downpour, let's say that. I was ready to make a boat," said Drew Sokalski, the chef at North Shore Golf Course.
Of course, there were a few dedicated golfers still playing in the rain. Now they'll have to re-sand the area.
"You spend money on sand, it might be rain again, you might have to do it again," Sokalski said.
But nothing compares to the frustration of Ron Molzahn, a resident whose house has flooded five times in the past year and a half.
Molzahn's home sits against the golf course and he said that the city's drain in front of his home tends to shoot water into the air whenever it rains hard.
His garage door will usually keep a foot or two of water from completely entering the house. But the bark and rocks he had laid out in his yard have been washed away time and again. Over time, his foundation has also eroded.
"My wife last night was crying because of all this," Molzahn said.
They spent Saturday night ripping up their basement carpet. Now there are fans to dry out the floor.
Molzahn hopes the city will solve the drainage problem. In the meantime, he won't be replacing any more flooring or landscaping. He said he'd rather move to a different house.
