Pierce County diners can now get alerted about restaurants with health code violations

TACOMA, Wash. — A new email alert and website will let diners in the South Sound know which restaurants have been shut down due to health code violations.

The new system in Pierce County comes less than two months after King County launched its emoji food safety rating system in which signs are posted in restaurant windows.

Those who sign up for the email alerts will be notified about which restaurants in the South Sound have been shut down for at least 24 hours.

KIRO 7 covered the story when Viet Dong restaurant in Tacoma was ordered to close for 6 months in May for repeated violations.

Under the new email system, subscribers would have gotten an alert, and the notification would stay on a website for a week, even if the restaurant reopens before then.

To get on the email list, follow this link or go to the list of Pierce County food establishment closures.

You can see two years of inspection reports for each restaurant posted.
