1 killed in plane crash into downtown Anchorage buildings

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — One person was killed when a small plane crashed into two commercial buildings Tuesday in downtown Anchorage, authorities said.

Anchorage Dispatch News said one person in the plane was killed in the fiery crash into the Brady Building, which happened at about 6:20 a.m. However, Don Tallman of the Anchorage Fire Department says the building appeared to be unoccupied at the time of the crash.

Anchorage Fire Department battalion chief Alex Boyd said the plane struck a building as it crashed, then came to rest against a second building, according to the ADN.

Witnesses said the wreckage was fully engulfed in flames.

Tallman said crews searched the building, and there was extensive damage to the facility.

It is not known if there was more than one person in the aircraft, but National Transportation Safety Board Alaska Office Chief Clint Johnson said there was likely only one occupant and no flight plan had been filed.
