PSE files injunction to prevent release of natural gas terminal records

Puget Sound Energy wants to keep the city of Tacoma from releasing any records related to the siting of a planned liquid natural gas terminal.

PSE filed a legal complaint Monday, citing fears of a terrorist attack.

The News Tribune reports that the complaint names the city of Tacoma and environmental activist John Carlton.  Carlton requested city records of a hazard assessment associated with the facility.

PSE wants to stop the city from releasing the records to Carlton, who made and circulated a flier depicting a theoretical blast zone map. PSE says fears of a possible explosion at the planned storage facility have been exaggerated.

A hearing on an injunction and restraining order is being held Wednesday.

The $275 million gas storage facility could open in Tacoma's Tideflats by 2019.

It's being called the second most controversial project at the Port of Tacoma.

The first is the world's largest methanol plant, which is also planned for the area. The idea has received much public backlash.
