SEATTLE — Police say they have a plan to deal with a crime spree in West Seattle after determining that a small number of criminals are responsible for a rash of break-ins.
“We used to leave bikes in the front yard, never locked a door, but I got burglarized,” said resident Larry Ruda.
Eight burglaries occurred last week from Delridge Way to Alki Beach.
Police say they are using advanced kits to gather fingerprints, but also say neighbors need to be part of the solution.
In August, neighbors helped police apprehend some prolific suspects.
“We were running down the street with our K-9, and all of the sudden, there's a citizen on a front porch pointing that way, we don't even have to ask, they know what we're chasing after,” said Lt. Ron Smith with Seattle police.
Some neighbors think thieves are targeting unoccupied homes.
Next month, police plan to survey West Seattle residents to hear their concerns.
