Disturbed man with loaded crossbow at West Seattle shopping center

SEATTLE — Police said a mentally disturbed man with a loaded crossbow had to be restrained by officers during an incident in West Seattle.

Shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday, police were called to the Westwood Village shopping center, where they convinced the man to put the weapon down and surrender.

Officers said the man had two arrows, one with a plain metal tip and the other with a razor steel hunting tip.

Police said an investigation revealed that the man was suffering from mental health issues.  He was taken to Harborview Medical Center for involuntary commitment.

Officers said the 47-year-old man was hostile to police and had to be restrained.
