Body found in search for missing woman

EDMONDS, Wash. — Investigators found a body near the home of a missing woman on Thursday morning.

Edmonds police wrote in a news release that after an hour of resuming the search for Amy Kennelly, a woman’s body was discovered in the woods about 100 yards from where her car crashed on Monday night.

“There is no evidence to suggest that the woman ended up in that location by any means but her own. No foul play is suspected in this case and the police department does not feel there is any danger to the public at this time,” the police department wrote.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the body and the cause of death.

Police and search crews suspended their search at about 9 p.m. Wednesday for a missing woman in Woodway, an upscale town just outside of Edmonds.

Family reported Amy Kennelly missing on Wednesday.

Matt Kennelly says his mom has taken off before, but not like this.

“This is different. No one's heard from her," he told KIRO 7.

He last saw his 48-year-old mother at dinner Monday evening and knew she was not well.

"She's had a history of drug abuse and that was pretty clear,” he said. “I'm used to the effects, kinda just like what to look for. And I noticed that coming to it."

Late on Monday, Kennelly says his mom came to a house along Algonquin Road where he used to live and bumped the garage door with her car.

"I think that spooked her," he said.

The homeowner called police.

They found the 48-year old's car there, but no one was in it.

Police found clothing and items possibly belonging to her in a nearby backyard and called in search and rescue teams.

“We just want to make sure that there's nobody injured out there,” said Sgt. Shane Hawley of the Edmonds Police Department.

KIRO 7 asked Hawley whether there is any link between this case and February's disappearance and death of Cheryl DeBoer in Mountlake Terrace five miles away.

“We don't see any parallels at this point that it's a similar situation,” said Hawley. “We don’t have anything that points toward foul play at this time. We’re treating it as a missing person investigation.”
