It happened just after 5 a.m.

The semi left northbound I-5 near SR 531 and slammed into a mold making business. It was first reported that the damaged business was a window tinting business because of the sign on the building's facade, but that business is in the other end of the building.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Rocky Oliphant said the driver is believed to have fallen asleep, struck the guardrail, went down an embankment and crashed through the building. He is expected to be charged with negligent driving.

KIRO 7 News video showed the whole cab of the semi truck and a small portion of the trailer inside the building.

Oliphant said though there was a lot of damage, the outcome could have been much worse if the fully-loaded semi had struck other vehicles or crashed into the business during operating hours.

Preliminary information is that the semi driver has minor injuries and was taken to the hospital to be evaluated.
