Man rescued from submerged vehicle in Lake Washington

SEATTLE — Seattle fire crews were able to free a driver from his car after it plunged into Lake Washington in the Madison Park neighborhood early Monday.

A neighbor told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News that he heard a loud bang shortly after midnight.  When he came outside, he and saw a car in the water in the 2200 block of 43rd Avenue.

Police said the car plowed through a big planter before careening over the edge and into the lake.

The neighbor said the same type of crash happened at the same location about a decade ago.

The car was about 15 feet from the shore and was submerged up to its roof.

There were no other occupants in the vehicle.

The driver was transported to the hospital as a precaution.
