Man fatally stabbed at Burger King in Bellevue

BELLEVUE, Wash. — A man was fatally stabbed Sunday afternoon at a Burger King in Bellevue, police said.

The incident happened in the 14600 block of Northeast 24thStreet around 3 p.m.

Police told KIRO 7 the man was stabbed multiple times inside the restaurant. The man was able to walk outside before collapsing.

He died at the scene.

Police said a suspect was taken into custody at a nearby Safeway.

KIRO 7 learned Sunday’s homicide is the first all year in Bellevue, a city that has averaged just more than 1 homicide per year in the last five years.

Witness Sokun Hem said he saw the stabbing victim on his stomach.

"He was puking out blood," said Hem.

Police on Sunday said they were trying to figure out what relationship the 38-year-old suspect had to the victim, who police say is between 35 and 40 and didn't have an ID.

"Not only is it unusual inside the restaurant, but in Bellevue we only have one to a few at most homicides per year so this is very unusual," said Seth Tyler with Bellevue Police.

Bellevue averaged 1.2 homicides per year in the last 5 years. We also researched similar-sized cities and found Everett averaged 1.6 homicides per year over a recent 5-year stretch. Yakima averaged 9 murders per year.

Seattle, by comparison, averaged more than 20 per year.
