PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University’s spring semester commencement will be postponed until at least August at all campuses, the school announced Wednesday.
In an email sent to students, WSU President Kirk Schulz said the university will schedule two opportunities to celebrate new graduates.
The first option is that each campus will reschedule an in-person commencement celebration on a date to be determined. WSU Pullman graduation is scheduled for Aug. 8.
The other option is on May 9, the university will hold its first systemwide commencement online.
“We fully understand the disappointment you feel about the turn of events that has disrupted spring semester. Commencement is without doubt one of the most cherished moments in the lives of new graduates and their loved ones,” Schulz said.
The decision was made after consulting students and campus leadership systemwide.
WSU moved to online classes and remote instruction through spring semester due to the coronavirus outbreak.
