Woman awaiting chemo treatment spends day at Seafair making lunch for officers

SEATTLE, Wash. — It takes hundreds of volunteers make Seafair run smoothly – but KIRO 7’s Jesse Jones might have found the best one.

Eighty-four-year-old Jonnie Lane’s spent her first Seafair making lunch for law enforcement officials.

Starting Monday, she’s going to start chemotherapy treatments.

But that didn’t stop her from dedicating her afternoon to making sure shelves were stocked, drinks were cold and dishes were clean.

Lane’s daughter, Kathy Morgan, was also a Seafair volunteer. She says her mom raised four daughters and has climbed Mount Rainier.

"They tell me I'm going to have to go in and start chemo," Lane said. "But I'm going to beat it … I'm going to beat the cancer."

KIRO 7’s Jesse Jones told Lane that he’d like to see her again at next year’s Seafair.

"It's a date," Lane said.
