KING COUNTY, Wash. — A wild barn owl was rescued Wednesday after getting trapped in what Kent firefighters said was a possible fishing line.
The owl was rescued near 132nd Avenue Southeast and Southeast 282nd Street by Puget Sound Fire Ladder 74 and Featherhaven Wildlife Rehabilitators.
Officials with Puget Sound Fire said the line was 50 to 60 feet off the ground and was 40 feet across two trees.
It's unknown how the line ended up in the trees and how long the owl had been stuck, officials said.
Crews with Featherhaven administered aid to the owl and took it to Pine Tree Veterinary Hospital in Maple Valley.
The owl was evaluated and Xrays showed no signs of fractures or dislocations even though the line was wrapped around its wing in excess of 50 times, officials said.
"His wing is tattered but no major injuries were found. He was hydrated and given anti-inflammatory medications. Tomorrow we will transfer the owl to our friends at Raindancer Wild Bird Rescue for continued care." - Featherhaven
