TUKWILA, Wash. — A Tukwila family is assessing the damage after a tree fell onto the roof of their home during Tuesday night’s high winds.

The tree came down on the back of the house, taking out a skylight and causing significant damage to a bathroom.

“We heard like a ‘boom’ noise in the house … really loud, like a bomb,” said Kha Hoang.

No one was injured, but the family says it was an incredibly close call.

Hoang’s father-in-law was planning to go into the bathroom, but he had stepped away from the room just a few minutes before the tree hit.

The homeowners spent most of the day speaking with their insurance company and local contractors.

“(The) insurance company couldn’t contact anyone, so they asked us to look for a local, available company to come out here and help,” said Hoang. “We (were) finally able to get someone, but now it seems like (they) cannot do it until the tree has been removed … Right now, we just have to wait and see what’s gonna happen.”

Now, their biggest priority is to get the tree cut away from the house, so they can seal up the skylight and roof before any rain can make its way into the home and cause further damage.
