Yet again Monday morning, President Trump slammed Amazon on Twitter.
Whether Amazon is paying enough for shipping was a big part of the conversation today with White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Raj Shah.
“Shipping costs for Amazon help render Amazon a profit while the Postal Service has run a $60 billion loss over the last decade that raises serious public policy questions,” Shah said.
Asked about WalMart, another huge company that gets similar shipping rates, but is not being attacked by the president he responded, “I think that any company that, you know again, ships primarily for their business and services and runs a large profit I think would be subject to similar scrutiny and part of the same debate.”

Amazon stock began falling when the president first attacked the company on Twitter last week, since then the stock has lost 12 percent of its value.
When asked if it is fair for Mr. Trump to single out any company in that way, Shah responded:
“The president is the president. He's going to raise public policy issues, he's going to use companies and going to use individuals, he's going to use industries as examples from time to time and you know that's just all part of the public policy debate.
Asked if the president would stop attacking Amazon if founder Jeff Bezos sold the Washington Post, which Trump has criticized, Shah said, “This has nothing to do with personalities, this has to do with policy.”
Amazon has not issued an official response, but a source close to the company’s thinking said Amazon does not ship parcels across the country using the Postal Service and its infrastructure. Instead, Amazon uses USPS for the so-called “last mile” of delivery once a parcel is close to its destination.
