Toddler in Burien Ross crash out of ICU

KING COUNTY, Wash. — The toddler who was critically injured when a van plowed through the Ross store in Burien has been moved out of the Intensive Care Unit at Harborview Medical Center.

Lezly Munoz is doing her best to keep 2-year-old David comfortable. Though he’s out of ICU and in a new room, he’s still in a lot of pain.

In Spanish, Munoz told KIRO 7 she’s sad and heartbroken.

It’s been nearly two weeks since little David was hurt when a van crashed through the Ross store in Burien while they were Christmas shopping. David was pinned in his stroller underneath the van. His heart even stopped until he was revived by first responders. Several others were also hurt including David’s grandfather, Obdulio Chiche, who was pushing his stroller at the time.

Chiche was released from the hospital on Christmas Eve. He has mixed emotions being able to go home while David continues to fight.

“I feel better but baby is in a very hard situation right now,” Chiche said.

Munoz said David has a fractured pelvis, some internal damage and several fractures in his leg. He’s already had three surgeries and is facing more.

While she is trying to be strong, she said she’s most worried about possible brain damage. And she is using faith to get them through.

A GoFundMe account has been setup to help the family.
