SEATTLE — Fresh off their 6-4 win on Sunday over the Colorado Rockies at Safeco Field, the good news kept coming for the Mariners as Nelson Cruz, Mitch Haniger and Edwin Díaz were named to the 2018 MLB All Star American League Team.

The announcements were made during an All-Star Game selection show on ESPN Sunday afternoon.

For Cruz, in his fourth season with the Mariners, this year will mark his sixth All-Star Game appearance.

Through Sunday's win over the Rockies, the 38-year-old designated hitter ranks in the top-10 in the "American League in home runs (tied 6th), slugging (8th) and OPS (10th). Cruz is batting .267 (74x277) with 39 runs scored, 10 doubles, 1 triple, 22 home runs, 53 RBI, 10 HBP, 31 walks, a .361 on-base percentage and a .549 slugging percentage (.909 OPS) in 76 games. Among AL leaders, he ranks tied for 6th in home runs, 8th in slugging percentage and 10th in OPS," the team said in a news release Sunday.

Diaz and Haniger will join Cruz in Washington D.C., but unlike their experienced teammate, each will be making their first All-Star Game appearances.

The 24-year-old Diaz "leads the Major Leagues in saves while also ranking 2nd among all relievers in strikeouts (Josh Hader-MIL, 83). He is 35-for-38 (92.1%) in save opportunities with a 2.30 ERA (12 ER, 47.0 IP) with 78 strikeouts and 13 walks in 47 relief appearances," the team said in a news release Sunday.

The 27-year-old Haniger ranks tied for second in RBIs, ninth in walks, tied for16th in home runs and is tied for 15th in OPS in the American League. Haniger also "leads the Majors with 13 game-winning RBI and with 11 home runs in the 7th inning and later," according to the team.

In addition to Cruz, Diaz and Haniger Mariners' shortstop Jean Segura has been named as a finalist on the final vote ballot, to be decided by fans online.

The 2018 All-Star game will be played at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. on Tuesday, July 17 at 5:00 p.m.

The Mariners enter Tuesday's road series against the Anaheim Angels with a 57-34 record, good for second place in the American League West.
