For the first time, the teenager who survived a car crash that killed two of her friends in Edmonds is speaking out.
Fifteen-year-old Breeana Jessen says she’s still traumatized over what happened the night of July 22.
“It all happened so fast, and things changed so quickly,” says Jessen. “My heart literally pounds and it hurts when I think about it.”
Jessen was one of three teens who survived a crash off Olympic View Drive near Andover Street
The driver, 16-year-old Zach Langer was killed, along with 15-year-old Noah Vires.
Jessen says she and her friends were out celebrating her birthday when the accident happened.
She says Langer was going about 80 miles per hour on a curvy road.
“I was asking them to slow down, and they were trying to comfort me that you are okay, you are going to be okay,” says Jessen.
Minutes later, the BMW went off an embankment and hit a tree.
Jessen, who suffered minor injuries, broke out the car window from her passenger seat to flag down a motorist for help.
She was wearing her seat belt and she says that it saved her life.
“I hope this will make people more aware that we are not as invincible as we think,” says Jessen. “Things will happen, even if we think they won’t happen.”
One of the surviving teens is still in the hospital.
Police say drugs and alcohol don’t appear to be a factor, and speed likely led to this crash.
