Strong winds uproot massive tree at Enumclaw apartment complex

Strong winds have been hammering the Enumclaw area and at one apartment complex, took down a huge tree! Wind gusts there on Thursday topped 50 mph.

“I thought, ‘Wow, that’s going to come down,’” Linda Harrold, who lives in the complex, said. “I heard something really loud and I looked out the window, there was no tree.” Harrold estimated that the tree was about 50 years old.

“It was just like a crash, a big crash,” she said. “I thought if it’s going to go it’s going to go right down the middle and that’s exactly what happened.”

The manager of the complex said that no one was hurt but a few residents were trapped because branches were blocking their doors. The manager was able to call emergency services for help and they were able to cut the branches away. The wind caused many problems in that area.

“I literally couldn’t get my door closed, my sliding glass door closed,” Harrold said.

The Washington State Department of Natural Resources said that a new fire is burning across about 15 acres of land southeast of Enumclaw. The agency said it’s worried about the fire spreading if the winds continue. Ground crews are working to put out the fire and a cause has not yet been determined.
