STEVENS PASS, Wash. — Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) says that all lanes of U.S. Highway 2 are closed over Stevens Pass from Index to Coles Corner, west of Leavenworth.
On Wednesday, the highway closed due to heavy rain that continued in western Washington this week, causing mudslides and flooding on the highway.
At the time, roughly 50 miles from milepost 35 to milepost 85 were closed.
As of Thursday, WSDOT has updated the closures on US 2, breaking it up into sections instead of a straight closure:
- Eastbound and westbound lanes from Index-Galena Road to Scenic is closed due to flooding. This is 21.75 miles of highway.
- Scenic to Coles Corner, west of Leavenworth, is shutdown in both directions due to rocks, trees and mud over the roadway. There is no detour available and no estimated time for reopening. This is 28 miles of highway.
- East of Stevens Pass is closed from Coles Corner through Tumwater Canyon to Leavenworth due to high water. No estimated time for reopening and no detour available. This is 14 miles worth of road.
